Club Leadership
MIke D.
President
A lifelong resident of East Liverpool, Ohio, my aviation journey began in 1990 with a $25 introductory flight certificate—an unforgettable gift from my wife, Kim. That one flight sparked a passion that has taken me across the country, from Alaska to Florida and everywhere in between. I’m also the President of Diloreto Construction Inc., a company I co-founded in 1978 with my father, Joe, who, like me, began flying in 1990. For three decades, I proudly served on the Columbiana County Airport Authority, many of those years as Chairman. Outside of aviation, I enjoy golfing, cycling, and hiking. After selling our aircraft in 2018, I joined BVFC and found my passion for flight reignited. The camaraderie, aircraft, and shared enthusiasm within the club have brought flying back into my life in the most rewarding way.
Jim W.
Vice President
I earned my Private Pilot License at 65 and my Instrument Rating at 68, proving it’s never too late to chase new challenges. With an insatiable hunger to learn and a naturally curious mindset, I’ve always pursued growth—in the air and in life. Outside of flying, I’m passionate about adventure and travel, having visited 55 countries, and I find great fulfillment in helping others succeed. I hold a BSBA from Babson College and have spent my entire professional life as an entrepreneur. What I value most about the Beaver Valley Flying Club is its culture of professionalism, dedication to safety, and the genuine way members support each other’s success. It’s more than just a flying club—it’s a community committed to excellence.
Leo G.
Secretary
I didn’t start flying until my 50th birthday, but I’ve been hooked ever since—especially when I hear the roar of jet engines at an air show! Outside the cockpit, I enjoy traveling with my family, along with cycling and swimming. Before retiring, I spent over 30 years working in Healthcare Information Technology and Medical Imaging across the Western Pennsylvania market. As a newer private pilot, what I value most about the club is the camaraderie and depth of expertise among its 40+ members. From FAA Inspectors and Air Traffic Controllers to Commercial and Military Pilots, the experience within this group is unmatched. Flying with this club means flying with friends who support, mentor, and challenge me to become a better pilot.
Bill B.
Maintenance Officer
Originally from Michigan, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to 43 countries, fueling a lifelong passion for adventure and exploration. I enjoy flying, swimming laps, road bicycling, photography, and collecting coins—each hobby offering its own form of challenge and reward. After proudly serving 20 years in the military as an aircraft mechanic, I transitioned into civilian service with the FAA, where I spent 28 years as an Avionics Inspector. Now retired, I stay connected to aviation through the club, which offers not only cost-effective flying but also a great sense of camaraderie. It’s a rewarding way to remain involved in aviation, share experiences, and connect with others who share the same passion for flight.
Pat O.
Safety Officer
I’ve been flying since 1975 and spent 23 years as a Navy pilot—both active and reserve—primarily flying the A-6 Intruder. I logged hundreds of carrier landings on six aircraft carriers and saw much of the world (mostly ocean!). During my time in the Navy, I served as an instructor as well as the Training, Safety, and Landing Signal Officer. Afterward, I flew for American Airlines for 35 years, piloting seven different aircraft ranging from McDonnell-Douglas to Boeing to Airbus. Today, I serve as the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor at ACES Aviation, where I help train the next generation of airline pilots. Outside of aviation, my wife and I bike about a thousand miles a year, I’ve restored a few classic cars, and I stay busy fixing things around the farm. Being part of this club is a privilege—the camaraderie reminds me of my Navy days, except now the pilots are older and the airplanes are a little slower!
